Off Road Go Karts: Safer ATVs But Not For Kids is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

All ATV sports are on the rise, and off road go karts are no different. Most people associate go-carts with children and while off road go karts are much safer than other ATV equipment, they are not designed for children.

While mini-bikes, pocket rockets and other ATV’s leave the rider exposed (even with protective gear), off-road go karts protect a rider with roll bars and other safer features. A typical off-road go-kart allows a person to sit inside of it, rather than outside and straddling a seat. This allows for better control and balance of the vehicle.

They also offer steering wheels rather than handle bars which allows for better steering control. Most off-road go-karts have four wheels, which offers more stability. Some, however, only have three wheels, which is still safer than two wheels like motorbikes have. Also, off-road go-karts have large wheels and are lower to the ground, which lowers their chances of rolling.

Due to the terrain they are meant for, off-road go-karts have great suspension in both the front and back to help absorb shock from bumps. Other ATVs have suspension and shock absorbers, too, but not ones as strong and sturdy as the ones offered on off-road go-karts. Off-road go-karts also offer padded seats for added comfort. Other safety features include seat belts, mirrors, turn signals and headlights.

Off Road Go Karts vs. Kid Friendly Karts

While they are generally safer due to their structure, it’s important to remember that off-road go-karts, like all ATVs, are not toys. These machines are powerful and best used by adults due to their speed. For a child, it’s best to look into a go-cart like the kind that is raced on controlled go-cart tracks. The off-road go-karts made for adults look more like dune buggies than traditional go-carts.

Off-road go-karts are generally powered by 150 cc (cubic centimeters) or 250 cc engines. These types of engines are mostly found in motorcycles and federal law prohibits anyone under the age of 16 from operating an ATV with an engine larger than 90 cc. That is just more proof that off-road go-karts are meant for adults. These engines can get as fast as 50 miles per hour.

The Great Go Anywhere Alternative That is Off Road Go Karts

Another great thing about off-road go-karts is they are not limited to go-cart tracks, smooth terrain or private lots. While most states have laws that prohibit off-road go-karts from being driven on main thoroughfares and side streets, off-road go-karts can go places other ATVs and children’s go-carts can’t. Due to where they are meant to be driven, it’s best to not let a child drive them unless an adult is in the vehicle with them.

Off-road go-karts can be more expensive than regular go-carts and smaller kids ATVs, but for an adult they can be a wonderful, cheap alternative to more expensive motorcycles, dirt bikes and other ATVs. As the popularity of off-road go-karts grow, the competitiveness between manufacturers will push prices of these vehicles even lower. For the real off-road go-kart enthusiast, plans on how to build the rough-terrain vehicles can be found online. Building your own off road go karts can save you even more money and can be a fun hobby.

A Kids ATV can be great fun, but shop carefully and take precautions.

When Shopping for a Kids ATV, Safety First is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

While pocket bikes and pocket rockets are not really ideal for most children, kids can still have fun on a kids ATV.

Though kids ATV’s are meant for kids, there are still some safety guidelines that should be followed when purchasing and operating these miniature vehicles.

First, choose the style of kids ATV that will best suit the child that will be operating it. A kids ATV is simply a mini version of an adult ATV. Each different type is designed for the age and size of the rider who will operate it. Even the motors are sized to match the age of the rider because federal laws dictate what size ATV a person can operate based on their age. For riders aged 6-12, the engine size should be no larger than 50 cc (cubic centimeters). For riders aged 12-16 the engine should be no larger than 90 cc. Any engine over 90 cc should be reserved for people aged 16 or older.

Another thing to look at when purchasing a kids ATV is its ease of use. Some come with automatic transmissions, which make them easier to operate for smaller children. Kids ATVs that come with an oil injection system will make it easier to mix the fuel and oil as needed to run the vehicle.

Differences Between Full Size and Kids ATV’s

Check out the different controls on the various models. For instance, some have two different types of throttle and starter controls and some have only one. Some people prefer one or the other. If you want your child to learn how to use the controls that come standard on a particular adult ATV, look for a kids ATV that has those similar controls. This will make transitioning to that adult ATV much easier.

Do not purchase a kids ATV that doesn’t have floorboards. Floorboards protect kids’ feet from wheels. Also do not purchase a kids ATV that doesn’t have headlights. While the headlights on them are not very powerful they do provide some light — and thus make them more visible — when using them at night or during cloudy weather. Besides, it is good practice to have an ATV that has headlights.

Also be aware that suspension on a kids ATV is much lower than on an adult ATV. Kids ATVs are fine for riding over smaller bumps, but big jumps could damage the ATV and hurt your child. Take that into consideration when looking at what model you want.

Kids ATV Precautions

After picking the model that will safely and legally suit your child, choose safety gear. A helmet and pads should be purchased, no matter where the child will be riding. Also remember that kids learn best by example. If you do not wear a helmet while riding an ATV, your child won’t either. Children should always be monitored when riding an ATV. In fact, most ATV related injuries suffered by children happen when they are not wearing the proper safety gear and when they are not being supervised.

Finally, after getting the ATV and the safety gear needed, read the manuals on each of the products you have bought. Familiarize yourself with the ATV and the gear so that you know how everything should work. With a little research and planning, your child can ride a kids ATV safely and still have fun.

Pocket rockets can be great fun for kids if used safely.

Pocket Rocket Safety Recommendations For Kids is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

A pocket rocket is a miniature-sized version of a street bike.

Due to their small size (averaging 20 inches tall and 38-48 inches in length) many people think they are meant for kids. However, pocket rockets are very fast, some able to go 65 miles per hour depending on the size of its rider. The original intent for a pocket rocket is not for child use.

Pocket rocket and mini-bike racing is one of the fastest growing motor-sports in America and Europe. These bikes may look like toys, but they are meant to be handled safely and professionally. That doesn’t mean you can’t allow your child to ride a pocket rocket, however. Anyone, adult or child, wishing to purchase a pocket rocket should read the specifications and recommendations of each model.

An Electric Pocket Rocket May Be Safer

Pocket rockets come in hundreds of makes and models, and they are all much cheaper than their larger counterparts. They come in gas and electric forms. Electric pocket rockets are cheaper and slower, which makes them better for smaller children. Gas bikes are faster, easier to operate and use little gas (roughly 40 miles a tank). To get started, look at the types of models each of these forms offers and decide what will be best for the rider.

Also, look into the size you prefer. To make the best decision, think of the size of the rider, where it will be stored and where it will be used. Pocket rockets, like all mini motor bikes have to be ridden on private property, a closed lot or go-kart tracks. Riding them in a neighborhood or street is not recommended for any model (and is illegal inmost states), gas or electric because their size makes it hard for motorists to see them properly.

Pocket Rocket Safety Training

After deciding what model is best for your child based on the specifics of the model, train your child on the proper safety of the bike. Take time to familiarize yourself with the bike and read the manual. Pay attention to any warnings listed in the manual and always use proper safety equipment, like a helmet and pads. Always supervise children that are riding a pocket rocket. Be sure to get copies of local laws pertaining to the operation of mini-bikes.

Perhaps one of the best rules to follow when purchasing a pocket rocket is buying from a reputable dealer. Since the sport of racing mini-bikes has become so popular in the past decade, there are hundreds of retailers that sell pocket rockets. Unfortunately, not all of them are reputable and buying a bike from a dealer who doesn’t know the product being sold or who lies about the condition of a bike can put people in danger. Research each seller before buying anything.

While pocket rockets were not originally intended for children, it doesn’t mean children can’t enjoy them. With the proper bike, safety equipment, training and supervision, children can safely enjoy pocket rockets. A selection of electric pocket rockets and other pocket bikes are available at Amazon.

Even cheap go karts can require a substantial investment. Be prepared.

Practical Thoughts on Buying Cheap Go Karts is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

Cheap go karts can be just as fun and durable as more expensive ones, but you need to know how to go about buying one. This article will outline the steps you should take when thinking of purchasing a cheap go kart.

Cheap Go Karts – New or Used?

There are many places you can find cheap go-karts online, but you must do plenty of research. Making a hasty decision could cost you more in the long run than purchasing a go kart at full price. In order to avoid that, first start with thinking about if you want to purchase a new or used kart. This decision may seem simple, but it can be harder than you think. There are obvious perks to buying a new go kart: fewer problems, potentially longer life, better warranty and probably a better looking product. However, the down-fall, of course, is that a new go kart will not be as cheap as a used model.

A used model will definitely be cheaper than a new go kart. You may also have better negotiation leverage with a used purchase. The obvious down-side to buying a used go kart is finding one in great condition. Even if a go kart looks like it’s in good condition, it may have unforeseen problems. Whatever your decision, this choice will cut your search time for that perfect cheap go kart in half.

There are many different types of karts and some are much more expensive than others. A good way to narrow down the search on the type you want is to decide how much you are willing to spend. Once you have that number, think about how often the go kart will be used, who will be the primary operator and the terrain on which it will most often be driven. These are all important questions as different models handle differently and are better suited for different conditions.

Now that you have significantly reduced the number of options it’s time to head to the Internet. While local places may have great deals, new and used alike, the Internet will help you price-match faster than looking around. Plus, the Internet will also have reviews on the dealers and the karts, as well as specifics on the particular models you look at.

The Benefits of Buying Cheap Go Karts From a Dealer

If you would rather look at the go-karts in person (which is a good idea when dealing with a private dealer or individual who is selling a used one), start with your local area dealers. If you are going for a used kart, try to stick with reputable dealers. While individual sellers may offer better prices, the likelihood of buying a lemon is probably higher than if you went to a well-known dealer. If you do go to an individual instead of a dealer and happen to find a cheap go kart in your price range that appears to be in good condition, draw up a simple contract of sale that stipulates you can return the go kart within a certain number of days should you find undisclosed problems with it.

If you’re looking for a used go-kart, there are many places to look other than dealers. One is your local paper. There are often listings of used go-karts in the classified section. Also, there are several used go-kart magazines that can be found in stores and at your local library. Most of these publications are free.

While these steps are simple, each can be time consuming. However time-consuming, though, they will save you a lot of money, frustration and time in the long-run when you go shopping for cheap go-karts.

One final note. When thinking of go karts, gas engine models are what typically come to mind. Generally gas engines out perform most commercially available electric engines in terms of speed. But if speeds in the 10 to 20 mph range will suffice, there are cheap go karts of the electric variety that should be considered as well.

Pocket bikes - true mini motorcyle racers.

Pocket Bikes and Pocket Bike Racing is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

Pocket bikes have been popular in Europe and Asia for years, even becoming a professional sport. Now, these miniature bikes are gaining in popularity in America and racing them is listed as one of the fastest growing motor-sports in the nation.

Since the 1960’s, pocket bikes have been raced in Japan and Europe. The miniature bikes gained notice in the U.S in 2003 thanks to mini-motorbike companies Blata, Polini, and GRC Moto. By 2009, more than 200,000 gas powered pocket bikes were being purchased nationwide.

Achieve the Feel of Motorcycle Racing With Pocket Bikes

One of the main draws of pocket bikes is their affordability. Gas and electric powered minibikes can be purchased for hundreds of dollars instead of the thousands larger versions cost. Despite their size and lower cost, pocket bikes operate like larger motorbikes. Many Grand Prix racers started on pocket bikes and some continue to race them. The same skills used in handling a larger motorbike must also be used in handling the smaller pocket bikes.

Also like the larger versions, there are many styles of pocket bikes to choose from. The styles include pocket rockets, mini-dirt bikes, super pocket bikes, pocket quads, race-ready mini-motos and race ready midi-motos. Each of these differs in engine type and size. It is recommended that buyers look into each version to determine which one would match the intended use. It is also recommended that buyers understand that pocket bikes may be small, but they are powerful and require advanced skill to operate the faster, more powerful versions.

Many pocket bike companies are known to exaggerate the speed of their electric and gas powered pocket bikes. The truth is, the slowest pocket bikes are electric and only reach 10-12 miles per hour. Other electric pocket bikes can go up to 25 mph. Gas model pocket bikes reach 35 mph for a standard model and 55 mph for modified versions (these are usually operated by professional riders and cost more than the average pocket bike). While these speeds may seem slow, it feels much faster when riding so close to the ground.

Where to Legally Ride Pocket Bikes

Unlike full-sized motorbikes, pocket bikes are low to the ground and hard to see. This makes them very limited to where they can be operated. In most states, pocket bikes cannot operate on public land because it is listed as an “off-highway” vehicle. These bikes must be operated on private property for rider safety. In fact, most manufacturers warn they are intended for racing on established speedways, closed lots and go-kart tracks. That includes pocket bikes that are meant for racing.

For someone interested in racing pocket bikes the easiest way to get started is by contacting a regional pocket bike league. Leagues hold racing events in safe, legal areas and can give tips on places to ride and practice when a race is not being held. If there is no league in your area, check with a local go-kart track about racing there and start your own league. With the increased interest in pocket bikes, finding or starting a league should not be difficult.

Kids Go Karts - The opportunity for everyone to be a kid!

Kids Go Karts is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

Kids Go Karts

Kids go karts are hugely popular, not only in the US but around the world. Go karts have been around since the mid-1950s and, although the designs and features have become more sophisticated (many have high quality features like role bars, disc brakes and reverse gears), the basic idea remains the same as demonstrated by the picture below.

The kart above, widely believed to be the original prototype kart, was designed and built by Art Ingels. Ingels has been dubbed the “father of karting” and is credited with the invention of the go kart. Modern kids go karts like the one below, as you can see, still keep the same concept.

Kids Go Karts – Modern Karting

Go kart tracks can now be found in just about every major city. Track Karts are designed to look operate like mini flat track racing cars. The tires are wide and relatively smooth and the wheel base is wide to allow the karts to go around turns at higher speeds. But just like every kart is not a kart for kids, track karting is not the only modern application of kids go karts.

There are also several models of kids go karts such as those made by Manco (American SportWorks), Goped and other manufacturers that are designed for off track and even off road operation.

Manco Quantum Kart

Go-Ped Super Go Quad

There are also other vehicles like ATVs, Four-Wheelers and mini bikes that, while not your traditional kids go karts, fall into the same category of automotive adventure sport vehicle.

John Deere Riding Toys

John Deere riding toys are among the most popular children’s riding toys on the market today. It only makes sense that the tractors, loaders and trailers of the John Deere brand, the largest and best known maker of farm machinery in the world, would make excellent and coveted ride on toys for kids. That’s probably why top ride on toy manufacturers continue to license the right to produce miniature versions of many of the John Deere farm vehicles. Whether you are looking for a ride on toy tractor or some other John Deere ride on toy, you should be able to find what you’re looking for.

Who Makes John Deere Riding Toys?

Two of the most prominent manufacturers of John Deere riding toys are Peg Perego and Learning Curve.

Peg Perego, an Italian toy company that’s been around for over 60 years, makes several of the most popular battery powered electric versions of John Deere riding toys including the Peg Perego John Deere Gator and Peg Perego John Deere Utility Tractor in addition to pedal powered vehicles like the John Deere Loader. Peg Perego is highly regarded and the John Deere riding toys they make are very popular. If your aim is to find a John Deere tractor toy, check out the various Peg Perego John Deere tractors.

Learning Curve is a division of US-based RC2 Corporation, which makes developmental toys for infants and toddlers. John Deere riding toys like the pedal powered John Deere Plastic Pedal Tractor and the John Deere Sit ‘N’ Scoot Activity Tractor are two of the products they offer. They make many of the simplest John Deere toys most suitable for younger kids. So if you need a John Deere toy for a child who’s just begun walking, you might look at the ride on tractors and John Deere toy ride on toys from Learning Curve.

Electric Go Cart is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

Electric Go Cart Vs. Gasoline Powered

An electric go cart (also electric go kart) is very similar to its gasoline engine cousin, the standard go kart. People generally choose an electric go cart over a gasoline engine for one of several reasons. Most commonly it’s either the noise (gas powered go carts are loud, electric go carts are quiet), the speed (gasoline powered go carts are generally more powerful, and faster than electrics — too fast for the liking of many parents), or it’s the environment. Sometimes it’s all 3!

Whatever your reason for considering buying an electric go cart, know that there are a lot of excellent ones on the market. The speeds attainable with electric go carts are generally between 10 and 15mph, which is certainly fast enough for a thrill, but tame enough to stay relatively safe.

Electric Go Cart Options From Razor

Among the options are several from Razor like the Razor Ground Force Electric Go-Kart.

The Razor Ground Force, with it’s steel frame construction, aluminum wheels and 4 1/2 inch rubber tires can run at speeds up to 12mph. It’s powered by two 12 volt rechargeable batteries and a quiet chain-drive electric motor. A full charge lasts for approximately 45 minutes of drive time. The variable speed accelerator and the brake are both hand operated.

Then there’s the Razor Ground Force Drifter Kart.

Like the Ground Force on which it’s based, the Ground Force Drifter is an electric go cart which employs a pair of 12 volt batteries coupled with a chain drive electric motor, runs for 45 minutes on a charge, can attain a speed up to 12 miles per hour and has a hand accelerator and brake. The features that make set the Drifter its own unique animal are its race-optimized chassis and super-slick rear wheels from whence the “Drifter” gets its name. Those slick rear tires let the driver power slide through corners, fish-tailing and performing fast 180s. Both the Ground Force and Ground Force Drifter are advertised as being appropriate for drivers 8-years-old and older who weigh up to 140 lbs. Both are equipped with a shoulder seat belt.

The Electric Go Cart Dune Buggy Option

Pedal Go Karts - The look and feel of a motorized go kart designed with pedal power.

Pedal Go Karts is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

What Are Pedal Go Karts?

In the world of kids ride on toys, pedal go karts fit somewhere between a bicycle and a pedal-powered soapbox racer. You can get very basic pedal go karts suitable for kids as young as 24 months and you can find more fully featured pedal go karts with multiple gears, all steel construction and and high performance tires for older kids.

Advantages of Pedal Go Karts

When compared to electric power or even gasoline engine ride-ons, pedal go karts hold their own. They are a great option for parents and young people that are fitness conscious and have exercise as a priority during recreation hours. And even for older kids that appreciate speed, higher end pedal go karts driven by anyone with decent leg strength will probably outrun most ride on electric cars other than those with huge batteries and power trains that go for thousands of dollars.

What’s Available in Pedal Go Karts

Pedal go karts have a sleek look that kids will appreciate. Prices vary depending on the type of go kart you choose, but they range from under $100 to around $1,300 for something high end like the Kettler Kettcar – Nevada K6 XG.

The Nevada K6 XG is the biggest kids racing car that Kettler makes. It features an all steel frame with powder coating to resist scratches, all-terrain tires, 7 speed shifter, freewheel lever, pivoting front suspension, adjustable seat, two wheel breaking system controlled by a hand brake, fully-enclosed chain drive, sport steering wheel, aerodynamic front bumper and more. It’s almost 5 ft. from front to back and 29 inches wide. The size coupled with the adjustable racing seat and 400 lb. weight capacity assures that the Nevada K6 XG is one of the pedal go karts that’s right for even the biggest kids or adults.

If you’re looking for something equally decked out but appropriate for a younger child, the Berg Toys Jeep Wrangler Pedal Go-Kart has the look and some of the same features of a real Jeep.

The Berg Jeep Wrangler’s black powder coated steel frame and off-road tires give it that Jeep look and feel. It features automatic freewheel so the pedals don’t keep spinning while the go kart is moving unless the driver keeps pedaling. Like a real off-roading Jeep, these pedal go karts have a roll bar for added safety and stability as well as an actual spare tire that mounts on the back.

If you’re looking for a pedal go cart that’s got the look and feel of real sports car, check out this Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 Pedal Car.

This replica is made in Italy with a license from Lamborghini so the details are all there. It’s for drivers who are a maximum of 3ft. 6 inches tall and 65 lbs. It’s made with strong and flexible polystyrene and polyethylene.

These are just a few of the many pedal go karts available, but if you’re looking for something different, there many others to choose from including powered ride on toys.

Manco Go Karts - The Ultimate Ride On Cars For Older Kids. Built for speed, comfort and safety.

Manco Go Karts is a post from: Kids Electric Cars

Manco Go Karts – For Go Kart Elitists

Let me start by saying that Manco Go Karts are probably not ride on toys for younger kids unless he or she is the next Dale Earnhardt or Danica Patrick. That said, when it comes to go karts, Manco go karts might be the best choice in ride on cars for older kids.

When most people think of go karts, they think of something made of old spare parts — a beat up 3 horsepower engine from the old lawnmower, scrounged up mini-bike tires, an ugly and bare, primer gray steel-framed chassis… (and we love them!). Manco go karts are a giant leap above those minimalist salvage job go karts of the past. These babies are deluxe!

American Sportworks (formerly Manco Powersports) has been making quality go-carts since 1970. Their Manco go karts have features like suspension, roll bars, rack and pinion steering and contoured seats.

Manco Go Karts Quantum

The Quantum by American Sportworks personifies power, style and pure fun.

The Quantum from Manco Go Karts is a sophisticated, high performing vehicle that has the features and power needed needed for driving on virtually any terrain. Teenagers and adults alike will love how it handles. Its got a two wheel auto torque converter drive train and air-cooled 150 cubic centimeter, 9.9hp motor that gives the Helix plenty of juice to handle hilly, muddy, sandy driving — and the engine runs relatively quiet as well. With its electric starter, no pull cord is needed. Top speed is 39mph but with an optional speed reducing kit, you can cap the speed at around 20mph if need be. Safety features include dydraulic disc brakes, 3-point seat belts, and a roll bar. The Quantum is a two-seater with adjustable, bucket seats that are both stylish and comfortable and seatbelts for both driver and passenger. It comes equipped with high traction tires, Rack & Pinion steering, independent front and semi-independent rear suspension, reverse gearbox and enclosed drive train.
